You Better Fold...
Since Chicago is right around the corner, I thought I should start messin' around with some graphic art basics. Doesn't get more basic than Beau. Ha!

The Take Away Shows
Earlier this month, a friend brought to my attention this amazing website entitled La Blogotheque. On this website, bands are captured on video playing acoustic sets in the streets of major cities (majority found in Paris). This creates an amazing unity between the artist and their surroundings. Here are a few of my favorite performances from the website...
Noah and the Whale - Rocks and Daggers
<Beirut - The Penalty
The Kooks - Ooh La

Critical Mass
Just got back from a maxed out labor day weekend in Chicago, and let me tell you a well rest was needed. Though the whole weekend was filled with biking, walking, drinking, eating and more biking, being able to participate in Critical Mass was a once in a lifetime experience (though those who live in Chicago are able to experience it once a month).
On the last Friday of every month, thousands of bicyclists flock to Daley Plaza. Once the congregation has formed, the group takes to the streets to raise awareness that bicyclists also have a right to the road. Part protest, part party, this ride is amazing. You get to see postcard-like scenery and listen to whatever music is coming from the boombox strapped to the bike gliding next to you. I highly recommend this activity to anyone who finds themselves in Chicago at the end of any month.

The What...
As you can see in my previous post, my left foot has rendered me ineffective. But while in this lame state I have not wasted my time. I finished a great book by Dave Eggers entitled What is the What and was able to put together an entire 80 minute cd of music I have never heard before today. Therefore, I have left you with a link that gives many reviews of Egger's terrific novel about the history of Sudan's Lost Boys along with some of the songs which made my "End of Summer Mix."
What is the What
Keep Rockin' the Alleys
Gimp Foot / All Songs Considered
While I am bedridden for another day or so thanks to my left ankle, I have had some time to go back and listen to a few episodes from the npr's "all songs considered" summer 08' catalog. I would have to say that it was interesting to hear the "summer preview 08'" show, and actually see how many of these songs/albums panned out. Also, I have added a link to the show entitled "best records of 08'...so far." Enjoy the tunes.

Chicago Bound
As some of you may know, I have been accepted to the University of Loyola - Chicago where I hope to succeed in the art of graphic design. Though I won't be making the full move until after the holidays, I will be making several trips up to the windy city to get my affairs in order.
So, until I start using this blog for what it was originally intended, I will leave you with a few jams (one old and one new) that I have been listening to lately.
Of Montreal - "So Becomes Our Alabee"
The Black Kids - "I'm Not Gonna Teach..."

Preface
Hello all, I have created this new site to help myself get back in to photography, the arts, and culture in general. In the near future I hope to get a new camera, but until then, my old Canon PowerShot II will have to sack up and get the job done. There will be more updates and photos soon. The photo above was taken somewhere over West Virginia on a flight back from New York to St. Louis.
